The Phenyx Pro PDP-2 system is a versatile and reliable dual digital wireless microphone system that is highly compact. Here’s my detailed review.
Key Features
- Dual Microphone System: Includes a handheld dynamic microphone and a body pack transmitter with a headset/lapel microphone, making it suitable for different applications like singing, public speaking, and video recording. Each receiver allows you to have 2 microphones paired at the same time. They also sell it as a dual handheld system if the body pack isn’t needed.
- UHF Frequencies: Operates on 2×15 UHF frequencies, ensuring stable and interference-free performance.
- Battery Life: It has an impressive battery life, with the handheld mic lasting through long gigs without dropping signal and the body pack is USB-C rechargeable. Oh and did I mention the receivers are USB-C rechargeable as well.
- Sound Quality: The sound quality isn’t amazing, but it does the job without emptying out your bank. The handheld mic is a bit hot, providing plenty of headroom when running through a soundboard. The body pack comes with a mini xlr microphone that is a bit sub par but you can swap it out for a better one to get better sound quality.
Pros
- Versatility: The system is highly versatile, suitable for karaoke, resort pool parties, and ceremonies.
- Range: Excellent range, with no signal drops even when used on a beach full of people.
- Cost-Effective: They offer a cost-effective solution for those needing a compact reliable wireless microphone system.
- Customer Support: Phenyx Pro is known for responsive customer service and offers a 12-month manufacturer warranty.
Cons
- Handling Noise: I have noted handling noise with the handheld microphone, which might be noticeable in quieter settings. This is due to how the microphones capsule is attached on the inside.
- Background Noise: The lapel microphone can pick up a lot of background noise, especially if it rubs against clothing. So I have a high pass filter setup on my JBL Eon One Pro MKII along with dialing in the EQ.
Overall Impression
I highly recommend the Phenyx Pro PDP-2 system for its versatility, and reliability. It’s an excellent choice for musicians, and public speakers looking for a cheap and dependable wireless microphone system. At the price point they are currently set at it’s a must get before you pass on it.
